What to expect

Frost Amphitheater is known as one of the region’s more relaxed and cultured music venues. A typical show takes place on a warm summer’s evening, with the bay breeze washing through the surrounding trees. Some guests reserve seats, some bring their own, and others lay on picnic blankets on the grassy lawn.

The arena’s natural slope allows for great views from any position. Likewise, the bowl setting and surrounding buildings make for excellent acoustics. While most shows experience pleasant weather, events continue in the rain — please bear the weather in mind when packing for your trip.

A 2019 renovation has given the Frost Amphitheater a new lease of life, with enhanced sound and improved staging now in place. There is also easier access to the venue, with dedicated tunnels and walkways adding to the event experience.

While doors open shortly before events, lines can form outside from 10 am. This is often made up of Stanford students and other guests eager to get prime positions on the general admission lawn. Due to location noise regulations, shows usually finish by 10-10:30 pm.
