Bluegrass prodigy Billy Strings just recently came out with a heartwarming record. Me/And/Dad, released in 2022, is a collaboration album with his musician father, Terry Barber. The album featured songs they jammed together during Strings’ youth. The tracks include covers from iconic artists such as Bill Monroe, George Jones, the Everly Brothers, and more. This memorable time in Strings' youth influenced him to become a full-time music artist. Now fans can also experience the songs that helped shape the Grammy winner into the incredible performer he is today. The album includes classic likes “Long Journey Home,” Bill Monroe’s “I Haven’t Seen Mary in Year,” and George Jones’ “Life to Go.”

In a statement, Strings expressed that he had always wanted to record this collaboration. “As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad. I’ve been burning up and down the highways the last 12 years, and as time slips away, you start thinking, ‘I need to make time.’ It’s been a bucket list thing for me, something I’ve been afraid I wouldn’t find the time to do. And that scared me; not doing this record scared me.”

Aside from jamming with his dad, Strings was also greatly influenced by the works of Doc Watson, David Grossman, and John Hartford. Aside from working with his dad, String has also been known to collaborate with various types of artists – from country music stars like Dierks Bentley to hip-hop icons like Post Malone. Last year, String appeared in Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway’s “Dolley’s Farm.” Moreover, he collaborated with jazz/funk guitarist Corey Won for the single “Road Trip.”

It seems like Strings’ efforts in attracting mainstream listeners to his brand of bluegrass music are paying off. The performer is attracting millions of streams through various platforms. He has also performed on stage with several legends, including Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, and Trey Anastasio. One year after his phenomenal Grammy win for Best Bluegrass Album for his sophomore album, Home, he performed “Hide and Seek” at the 2022 64th Grammy Awards.
