San Francisco Ballet: Starry Nights at Frost Amphitheater

“Mr. Tomasson has accomplished the unprecedented: He has pulled a so-called regional company into the national ranks, and he has done so by honing the dancers into a classical style of astonishing verve and purity. San Francisco Ballet under Helgi Tomasson’s leadership is one of the spectacular success stories of the arts in America.” – The New York Times.

In 1991, the San Francisco Ballet performed in New York City for the first time in 26 years, and the quote above is what The New York Times had to say about their astonishing performances. Helgi Tomasson has since retired from the company after decades of success. In 2022, it was announced that leadership would be passed on to Tamara Rojo.

This year, the San Francisco Ballet will be once again taking the stage to present Starry Night. This is the third year in a row that the company will be performing this act and it may turn into an annual tradition due to the positive reviews. They will be taking the stage on Thursday, the 3rd of August, 2023 at the Frost Amphitheater in San Francisco, California.

Yuri Possokhov, San Francisco Ballet’s resident choreographer, reimagines Igor Stravinsky’s legendary 1931 Violin Concerto in D. Violin Concerto was initially commissioned and constructed for San Francisco Ballet’s 2023 next@90 event. It is steeped in classical vocabulary that showcases the dancers’ steely technique and emotional range while also capturing the choreographer’s distinctively contemporary perspective. It received standing ovations and wonderful reviews, making it a true highlight of the next@90 Festival.

Another performance that will be featured in the show is Madcap by Danielle Rowe. It was dubbed as a triumph by the San Francisco Chronicle. Danielle Row successfully displayed her storytelling and theatrics as she masterfully dissected the anatomy of a clown and allowed the audience a peek into his life behind the curtain.

This brilliant performance will be live very soon, so click on “GET TICKETS” right now and buy tickets to ensure that you save yourself a spot in this show.
